Let’s rewind…

This perennial plant’s first recorded appearance dates back to 1000BC, when dried peppermint leaves were found entombed in ancient Egyptian pyramids.

From earth to bottle

Peppermint essential oil is derived from the aerial parts of the plant that sit above ground. At harvest, it’s cut down to the ground and left for a few days to dry. The plant is then chopped up before distillation.

The chemistry behind the comfort

Peppermint’s main chemical component is Menthol. Menthol creates a cooling effect that can contribute towards calcium channels working optimally. Additionally, Menthol produces a refreshing sensation when the oil is added to recipes for food or beverages.
